Symptom
Maintenance end of the 6.20 kernel.
Other terms
Downward-compatible kernel, DCK 640
Reason and Prerequisites
SAP terminates maintenance for the 6.20 kernel on 30 June 2005.
Solution
As of October 2004, the 6.40 kernel is available as a downward-compatible kernel for SAP products based on SAP Web AS Releases 6.10 and 6.20. The 6.40 kernel therefore replaces the 6.20 kernel for this product range.
For this reason, SAP terminates maintenance for the 6.20 kernel on 30 June 2005.
This means that, for problems in the 6.20 kernel occurring after 30 June 2005, any necessary corrections will only be available based on the 6.40
kernel.
If you continue to operate your system with a 6.20 kernel after 30 June 2005, you might therefore need to update your kernel to version 6.40 to correct the problem.
Note 664679 contains technical information on installing the 6.40 kernel in 6.10 and 6.20 based systems.
If you operate your 6.20 kernel with an Oracle database version 8.1.7, see Note 803553.
If you operate your 6.20 kernel on OS/400 V5R1, see Note 805459.
You can find general information on released operating systems/database combinations for the 6.40 kernel at:
http://service.sap.com/platforms -> Product Availability Matrix
Information for the SAP Upgrade:
For an SAP upgrade that is delivered with a 6.20 kernel version, you should continue to use the delivered 6.20 kernel after the desupport date. You should only change to the 6.40 kernel immediately after the upgrade, before the system is used productively.
The only exception to this is if the upgrade itself requires a 6.40 kernel.
для САПа - это совершенно обычная практика.
